Application for 2010 Orchestra Education Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria

The 2010 PADESTA Orchestra Education Scholarship is available to a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Pennsylvania or Delaware. Applicants must be nominated by a PADESTA member in good standing, and the applicant must be accepted to an accredited collegiate program with a declared major in music education (or a dual major including music education). Applicants should be active members of their high school orchestra, or a community or youth orchestra if no school orchestra program exists.

Upon review of all applications, one recipient of the 2009 PADESTA Orchestra Education Scholarship will be awarded $500.00 (made payable to the recipient’s college or university).

2010––Angela Richards

    Angela “Angie” Richards has been playing the violin for ten years. She learned music in the public school setting. Her private teachers include Joelle Miller and Jerry Lynn. In her freshman year of high school, Angie participated in PMEA district orchestra, the Williamsport Millionaire Strolling Strings, and the Williamsport High School Music Department’s production of West Side Story, in which she played in the pit orchestra. In her sophomore and junior years of high school, she went to PMEA district, regional, and state orchestras. In her junior and senior years, Angie was first violinist in the Millionaire String Quartet and was also concertmaster of the Williamsport High School Symphony Orchestra. Other achievements include the Lebanon Valley College High School Honors Orchestra, being the featured soloist with both the Williamsport Chamber Choir and Orchestra, and the Williamsport Youth String Ensemble, conducting a piece in the Williamsport High School Concert Orchestra, playing in the pit for the Williamsport High School Music Department’s production of Les Miserables and Kiss Me, Kate, and giving private lessons to young violinists (3rd to 10th grade) in Williamsport. Other than violin, Angie sings and took part in her high school’s Concert Choir and in the select woman’s singing group Les Chanteuses. In the fall, Angie plans to attend Lebanon Valley College to major in music education. She will be studying violin with Dr. Johannes Dietrich.
