Solo Competition
The Biennial Solo Competition was held on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Hershey Middle School. Five musicians participated in this year’s event, and all of them gave outstanding performances. The winners for the 2010 PADESTA Solo Competition were:
Senior Division Winner:
Yuki Koyama (19), violoncello
Wallingford, PA
Junior Division Winner:
Bihn Park (13), violoncello
Haverford, PA
PADESTA would like to thank Kathleen Yeater and Dalinda Bohr for serving as judges for this year’s competition, and Robert Gardner for serving as a judge and chair of the event. The committee was impressed by all the performances, and found it difficult to choose only one winner for each category. Nonetheless, they were unanimous in their selections.
The committee was also happy to recommend that all the participants be considered for the national ASTA Solo Competition, which will be held March 17-19, 2011, at the national conference in Kansas City, MO. The other participants in the competition were:

Thanks also to J. R. Judd Violins in Williamsport, PA, for donating the prize money for the junior division winner. The folks at Judd Violins have been consistent supporters of PADESTA and the string teachers in our region. You are encouraged to visit their shop and share with them how much their support is appreciated.
Lastly, we wish to thank Greg Woodbridge and the Derry Township School District for providing the location for the Solo Competition to our organization free of charge. The Hershey Middle School auditorium has served as an excellent venue for past two events.
The next PADESTA Solo Competition will take place in October 2012. Check the national ASTA website for information as it approaches, and be sure to encourage your students to participate.
